About
Dr. Sanjay Yadagiri
Consultant in Surgical Oncology and Minimal Access Surgery. 30+ years of clinical practice. Hyderabad.
M.B.B.S, F.A.G.E, M.S (General Surgery), Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery (France), Certificate in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery (France)
A surgeon shaped by three continents
The training that shapes a surgeon takes decades. It begins in medical school and continues, in the best cases, across a lifetime of practice, learning and refinement. For Dr. Sanjay Yadagiri, that journey has spanned more than three decades and three continents.
He has trained at one of India's most respected medical institutions, worked in hospitals across the United Kingdom, earned a Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery from a French university with a 500-year academic legacy, and built a sustained clinical practice in Hyderabad over the past two decades.
What patients experience when they meet him is the result of all of this: a careful, considered, internationally informed approach to surgical care.
The foundation: Kasturba Medical College, Manipal
Dr. Yadagiri began his medical education at Kasturba Medical College in Manipal, graduating with his MBBS in 1995. Founded in 1953, KMC Manipal is one of India's oldest and most respected private medical colleges, with a long tradition of producing clinicians who go on to lead in their fields.
His years at Manipal gave him the rigorous academic foundation and the clinical exposure that would shape everything to follow.
Clinical training in the United Kingdom
Following his MBBS, Dr. Yadagiri spent between nine and twelve months in the United Kingdom, completing clinical attachments at several hospitals. This was a deliberate choice - to step outside the Indian medical system and observe how surgical care was practised in another mature healthcare environment.
During this time, he streamlined his understanding of international treatment protocols and fine-tuned the clinical instincts that distinguish a thoughtful surgeon from a merely technical one. Very few practising surgeons in Hyderabad today carry this kind of early international exposure.
Master of Surgery (2000)
Returning to India, Dr. Yadagiri completed his Master of Surgery (M.S. in General Surgery) in 2000, building on his foundational training with three years of dedicated surgical residency.
This was the point at which he formally became a surgeon - and the point at which the next major chapter of his training began.
Apollo Hospital: honing the craft of laparoscopy
After completing his M.S., Dr. Yadagiri joined Apollo Hospital as a Registrar. Apollo is one of India's most recognised hospital brands, with rigorous clinical standards and a high volume of complex cases.
Here, Dr. Yadagiri honed his skills in laparoscopy - the minimal access surgical techniques that were rapidly transforming surgical practice worldwide. He was also involved in animal lab training of other surgeons in the basics of laparoscopy, an experience that developed his teaching ability and deepened his own understanding of the techniques.
Teaching surgery to other surgeons demands a level of mastery that simply performing surgery does not. It was during this period that Dr. Yadagiri's foundation in minimal access surgery was truly built.
Building independent surgical judgement
After his year at Apollo, Dr. Yadagiri moved to peripheral surgical centres, where he worked independently on complicated cases. Working away from the safety net of a large institution forces a surgeon to develop independent clinical judgement quickly.
He has spoken about this period as one of the most formative of his career. It taught him to make decisions alone, to handle complications without referring up, and to trust his own surgical instincts. Patients who consult Dr. Yadagiri today benefit from the depth of that hard-won judgement.
European training at Louis Pasteur, France
During the years that followed his return from the UK and his independent practice, Dr. Yadagiri travelled to France for his European surgical training - organising and conducting national and international surgical conferences and workshops in parallel, work that placed him among the surgeons shaping clinical practice in India, not merely participating in it.
Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery, University of Louis Pasteur, France
The University of Louis Pasteur in Strasbourg, France was founded in 1538, making it one of Europe's oldest universities. Its faculty of medicine and surgical training programmes are internationally renowned.
Dr. Yadagiri earned two qualifications from Louis Pasteur: his Diploma in Laparoscopic Surgery and his Certificate in Laparoscopic Colorectal Surgery. These are credentials held by very few surgeons in Hyderabad - or in India.
The training in France gave him exposure to European surgical philosophy: a focus on precision, on minimising trauma to the patient, and on long-term outcomes over short-term metrics.
Seven years at Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute (2003-2010)
From 2003 to 2010, Dr. Yadagiri served as Consultant at Basavatarakam Indo American Cancer Hospital & Research Institute in Hyderabad - one of India's most respected dedicated cancer hospitals and a referral centre for complex oncology cases from across the region.
These seven years immersed him in high-volume surgical oncology and shaped the sub-specialty focus that has defined his practice ever since.
Twelve years as Consultant at a Single Speciality Cancer Hospital (2010-2022)
From 2010 to 2022, Dr. Yadagiri served as Consultant in Minimal Access Surgery at a Single Speciality Cancer Hospital in Hyderabad. This twelve-year tenure allowed him to build a substantial body of clinical work and the kind of long-term relationships with patients and referring doctors that define a senior consultant.
It was a period of sustained, high-volume clinical practice in one of Hyderabad's well-established institutions.
Independent Consultant practice (2022 - Present)
Since 2022, Dr. Yadagiri has practised as an Independent Consultant in association with several reputed corporate hospitals across Hyderabad. This independent model allows him to focus entirely on his patients - selecting the most appropriate hospital for each case, maintaining direct patient relationships, and offering his clinical opinion without institutional constraints.
It is the natural culmination of a career built on careful judgement, hard-earned expertise, and the trust of his patients and referring colleagues.

"The most important moment in any patient's surgical journey is not the operation itself - it is the conversation that comes before it. The conversation where the patient understands their condition, understands their options, and walks out feeling that they have been listened to and respected.
That is the conversation I try to have with every patient who comes through my clinic.
Surgery is a serious decision. It deserves a serious, considered, honest answer from your surgeon. I have spent three decades trying to be that kind of surgeon."
